LIPS Urgent Care Centre
Most of us know that "in-between" situation: you're worried, in pain, or unwell but it doesn't feel like a 999 emergency. You may not be able to get a GP appointment quickly, and you may not want to wait for hours in a busy A&E.
When A&E isn't the right fit
Outstanding care for serious, life-threatening emergencies. But if your problem is urgent (and not a 999 emergency), A&E can be difficult — especially when departments are very busy.
You may experience:
Hours of uncertainty before you're seen, with no way to plan.
No guarantee of when or by whom you will be assessed.
Walk-in only, with no ability to book or plan your day.
A&E is designed to prioritise urgent emergencies and patient flow — follow-up planning is limited.
Private GP vs Private Urgent Care
If you need help with a routine health problem or ongoing care, a private GP is usually the best place to start. Private GPs can help with health checks, prescriptions, referrals, medication reviews, and longer-term health concerns.
If you have a sudden illness or injury that needs urgent attention today, private urgent care may be more suitable. This can include cuts, infections, possible fractures, dehydration, chest symptoms, or severe headaches that need quick assessment.
Routine & Ongoing Care
- →Health checks, prescriptions, referrals
- →Medication reviews
- →Longer-term health concerns
- →Non-urgent conditions
- →Ongoing (chronic problems)
- →Minor illnesses like coughs or colds
- →Women's health issues

Your pathway to care
Choose from a full urgent care consultation with a senior emergency medicine consultant, or one of our condition-specific symptom-based assessment packages.
A thorough assessment with a senior emergency medicine consultant.
Your appointment may include:
- →A detailed history and examination
- →Treatment advice where appropriate
- →Tests arranged if needed (for example blood tests, ECG, imaging)
- →Referral to a specialist if required
A structured "episode of care" approach
Some people prefer a more structured "episode of care" approach. We offer symptom-based assessment packages designed around common urgent problems so you know what to expect.
Examples may include:
"I hurt something / I may have broken something"
e.g. fever, sore throat, urinary symptoms
e.g. chest pain, palpitations, breathlessness
e.g. abdominal/pelvic pain, bowel symptoms, urinary retention/discomfort
e.g. headache, dizziness, ENT symptoms
e.g. one-sided leg swelling or calf pain
Important: These packages are based on your symptoms, not a diagnosis. If you're unsure which is right, our team will help you choose.
