Symptoms or screening: which do you need?

Symptoms or screening: which do you need?

There are two reasons to visit a private breast clinic in London. Knowing which applies to you means you get to the right care faster.

What if you have noticed a change?

If you have noticed any of the changes listed above, book a breast concern appointment at our Battersea Power Station clinic. You do not need a referral and you do not need to wait. A specialist breast surgeon will assess you on the day, with imaging carried out in the same visit if needed.

What if you feel completely well?

A screening appointment is a routine check with no specific concern. It is recommended from age 40, or earlier if you have a family history or a known risk factor. See the sections below for more detail on what screening involves.

You may want to book sooner if you:

Have a parent, sibling, or child who has had breast cancer

If you are at higher risk, your surgeon may also recommend an MRI scan alongside your breast check. They will talk this through with you at your appointment.

Breast Screening With No Symptoms

Most breast cancers are found in women who feel completely well. A routine breast screen is the best way to catch any changes early, when they are smaller and easier to treat. Private breast screening in London at LIPS Healthcare is open to any woman, at any age, with no GP referral and no waiting list.

Who should consider breast screening?

Breast screening is for any woman who wants to check that everything is okay. Most women are advised to start from age 40, but you can book at any time.

What does breast screening involve at LIPS?

You will see a specialist breast surgeon at our clinic in Turbine Hall B, Battersea Power Station, who will take your full history and recommend the right checks for you.

Mammograms: what they are and when to have one

Mammograms: what they are and when to have one

A mammogram is a quick, low-dose breast X-ray that can find changes too small to see or feel, often before any symptoms appear.

When should you have a mammogram?

Most women are advised to start from age 40. You do not need a GP referral and you can book at any time.

A mammogram may be especially useful if you:

  • Have a parent, sibling, or child who has had breast cancer
  • Carry a BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene
  • Have dense breast tissue
  • Want an annual check rather than waiting several years

If you have very dense breast tissue, your surgeon may recommend a 3D mammogram for a clearer, more accurate result.

We are a short walk from Battersea Power Station station on the Northern line and London Overground, with easy access from Chelsea, Clapham, Vauxhall, Pimlico, and Wandsworth.
