About Mr George Murphy
Biography
Mr George Murphy is a Consultant Hand and Plastic Surgeon at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, and a locum Consultant Congenital Hand Surgeon at Great Ormond Street Hospital. He studied Medicine at the University of Cambridge before completing his clinical training at Barts and The London School of Medicine, where he was awarded the Sutton Prize and a Rahere Studentship. He later completed his specialist plastic surgery training on the prestigious Oxford rotation and earned a PhD in congenital hand surgery at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Mr Murphy completed advanced fellowships in hand surgery at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital before becoming a Consultant Surgeon at St Thomas’ Hospital. He also holds the British Diploma in Hand Surgery and was awarded a Hunterian Professorship by the Royal College of Surgeons in recognition of his research. Alongside his clinical work, he is actively involved in surgical education and research, co-directing the St Thomas’ Advanced Cadaveric Hand Course and serving as departmental lead for research. He has published internationally and presented his work across Europe, Los Angeles and Hong Kong. Outside of work, he enjoys cycling, singing and spending time with his family.
