Dr Gautam Bhatia

Dr Gautam Bhatia is an experienced and knowledgeable consultant psychiatrist currently working for South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, and as a visiting consultant at Priory Hospital Hayes Grove. He has a medical degree, postgraduate certificate in medical leadership, Royal College of Psychiatrist approved examiner for MRCPsych exams (membership exams) and is a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. He trained in highly acclaimed and reputed institutes of psychiatry - University College and Maudsley training programmes. He is dual specialist trained in general adult psychiatry and liaison psychiatry. Following this, he worked as a clinical lead consultant in NHS Oxford for five years. With extensive experience as general adult psychiatrist and approved clinician, Dr Bhatia became a consultant in 2014 and has experience in specialist assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients presenting with a wide variety of mental health problems. These include common disorders such as depression, anxiety, psychosis, stress, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and personality disorders. The basis of his clinical practice is to understand the root cause of the problem, helping patients alleviate their distress and empowering them. Dr Bhatia takes a holistic approach, treating each patient as an individual, considering their beliefs and circumstances and using the latest medical evidence when considering treatment modalities, combining pharmacological and psychotherapeutic options. As a liaison psychiatrist, he firmly believes in a unified approach, recognising the subtle and complex interactions between physical аnd psychological states. Dr Bhatia is described by colleagues as a knowledgeable, hard-working and conscientious psychiatrist with excellent leadership skills.
